The Power of a Negative Mind

I get it, who gets up and wonder about the thoughts you’re having.

It may be that you are so filled of your daily schedule and the ever to do list, that you just get up and get right into it. When something goes wrong, you unconsciously say to yourself that it had to go wrong, after all things always go wrong with me!

Sounds familiar?

If so then you are not alone.

I grew up in a very pessimistic household. All that could go wrong or bad was highlighted, even at times when there were the obvious positives. I took this outlook on life and sad to say it didn’t lead me to having the success I wanted. I believed myself into failure literally.

Yes indeed, my mind was so fixated on the negative, that my thinking railroaded the best of opportunities that was presented to me.

Fortunately, one day through a great friend of mine, she drew attention to my overwhelming negative thought patterns. It was a hard realization, but a necessary one. I got the support I needed to address the past and learnt to develop a positive outlook.

At times still when life throws the curveballs, which is part of living, it can threaten to overwhelm me with negative thoughts. Now, though, when the negative thoughts come, I am reminded of daily positive affirmations to keep me going.

So someone who is reading this may say, but okay you don’t have my life, there is nothing positive to my life.

Here’s the thing, if you are reading this, it means you are still alive and if you are alive, that is a positive thing, in and of itself.

No matter how difficult your life is, there is purpose with your continued existence.

It may be that you can encourage someone else who is going through a difficult situation similar to you. It may be that your breakthrough from the difficulties you are experiencing is right around the corner. I don’t know or assume to know, but just know, if you are alive, there is a positive reason for your continued existence.

Realizing the power of our thinking can change our lives. I challenge you today to take an inventory of your daily thoughts to yourself and it would be an amazing realization for most of us!

We have enough things and persons in the world against us, don’t let yourself be one of them!

We are all destined for a great purpose, there is no one who can convince you of such more than you!!!

Negative thinking can cause us to sabotage our success, by taking actions reflective of failure.
Think about someone who is always negative, it is an energy that when you are around them, and their continuous preoccupation with all the negative, you then begin to experience negative events, just from being in their presence!!

There is good news though! We can overcome negative thinking…by doing some of these things stated.

Engage in daily positive affirmations

Daily engaging in positive affirmations, can do much to keep you focused on what is going well. Focusing on the positive and giving thanks, gives an overall feeling of well-being.

Set your goals before you.

We all have things we want to achieve, setting up a vision board and recognizing even the small progressive steps towards our goals, can keep us going, even when we have a setback.

Don’t share your dreams with any or everyone

This one may surprise you, but sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is keeping our mouths shut! I learnt this the hard way.

Even the close friends and family we believe are cheering for us, could offer such negative pronouncements on our future, that it is simply best to build yourself through reading, listening to positive messages and working silently but progressively!

Seek help to overcome self defeating beliefs

It’s easy to state the above and say go out and do it, yet in reality, if we trace the inception of our negative self talk and thinking, it may be embedded from childhood experiences and was further ingrained from bad experiences. Seeking professional help is not a sign of weakness, but strength.

Negative thinking is a prison from which we can all escape. Will the negative thoughts come after? Of course it will, but knowing who you are and focusing on keeping the thoughts centered on positivity will eventually lead to less time and space for the negative thinking to abide and maintain residence.

I wish us all the mental freedom to walk into our purpose or further develop it if already on your life purpose. Don’t let negative thinking derail it!

The good news, we can free ourselves from the power of negative thinking!!! If you want to..so step out and step in to a new found freedom of reducing and eventually eliminating the residence of negative thinking in your mental space!
